In the Beginning

I've been considering starting a blog, and today had the urge to do so. Even with so much going on in my life, I felt the need to chronicle what it is that is going on and all that I am learning (even if no one else reads it except for me.)
The last 2 1/2 years have been incredibly crazy, to say the least, and I've had to complete trust God that He had everything under control. Not sure of where I was going, I've had a roller coaster ride!
In the past 6 months, I have been convicted of something quite unexpected. While body image is something that I myself have always struggled with, I have been overwhelmed with information on how we treat our bodies. Sometimes it is due strictly with body image. Others, it's more of not having respect for ourselves.
1 Corinthians 6:20 says for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body. In the passages prior to this, Paul is talking specifically of sexual immorality. But I got to thinking about the total message of "honor God with your body." Paul explains that our bodies are temples of God. We should be careful of what we put into it. If Jesus lives inside of us, we should want to protect our bodies as His temple! This includes sexual immorality, but also what we see, what we hear, what we drink, and what we eat!
I am a major cook: I love to feed people. I blame this on my grandmother who's life goal was to feed all of Cynthiana (at least that's what I'd like to believe). Food is a major source of comfort for me, both in preparing and eating, but it's also a major way of how I show my love to others. However, what is it that I'm cooking? Is it honoring to God? Is it something that is good for "God's temple"? Sometimes yes, and sometimes no.
Inspired by the movie Julie & Julia, I would like to take 1 year of my life to express my love of cooking. However, through this blog, I plan to discuss what it is that I will be eating, cooking, & drinking (caffeine being a major dependence for most of my life). I would love to hear comments on any recipes that I might try, variations that you might have, or encouragement that you might have!
Happy Cooking!
